USA 26 April: Anchorage

The observance of 25 years of running for peace in Alaska began a few days early in Valdez, AK coinciding with the wedding of Palyati's (our Alasakan coordinator) son's wedding. This is the transportation to the wedding ceremony.

After exchanging wedding vows Nate and Jenna shared a prayer for world peace.

Delighted mother also made a prayer for peace.

On April 27th Palyati took the torch to some of her favorite places near Anchorage. She began at the Peace Pole on 4th Ave. in downtown Anchorage on the grounds of the old City Hall, now the site of Visit Anchorage.

Anchorage - crossroads of the world.

Statue of Captain Cook overlooking the Cook Inlet in downtown Anchorage.

Mt. Susitna, also known as Sleeping Lady across the Cook Inlet from Anchorage is part of the Alaska Range.

At Earthquake Park, commemorating the 1964 Great Earthquake 9.2 magnitude, the second largest recorded earthquake in history. Downtown Anchorage in the background as well as the Knik Arm of the Cook Inlet.

Tony Knowles Coastal Trail which runs 10 miles from downtown past Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport to Kincaid Park the site of international cross country ski races.

Mt. Susitna from the coastal trail.

At Glen Alps trailhead in the Chugach Mountains overlooking Anchorage.

On the bike path near Palyati's house.

Looking forward to another 25 years!!!
