USA 19 June: Alton, CA - Del Norte Coast Redwoods Park, CA
Our day began with a special visit to Eureka Healthcare and Rehabilitation Centre.
Administrator Mary Johnson greeted us in the parking lot and lead us into to a very nice group of senior citizens.
Salil offers an interview.
The snacks were delightful.
They really seemed to enjoy our visit, especially when we sang.
Pujari's good friend, and now ours, Bill joined us this morning for the ceremony after so very kindly offering us his home.
It is always so nice to stay in a home away from home!
From there we enjoyed a gorgeous day of running by the coast and...
...through the forest!
Some of our runners were so eager to run more miles that they ran in groups of 2 or 3.
We were lucky enough to pass a field of grazing elks.
After finishing our miles today we got a good tip from a local at the gas station that Trees of Mystery is a good place to visit.
We met Gloria Renteria in the gift shop, along with her daughter Isabelle Nunez and grand-daughter 1-year-old Sophia. Gloria was excited to see us because she had seen our team running through Fort Bragg yesterday, and again on the road today. She loved the ethic of our Harmony Run and held the torch and added her wishes for world harmony, along with Isabelle. They also made a video of us talking about our run, and then let us video them talking about us. It's the warmth and enthusiasm of people like Gloria and Isabelle that keeps us going on our long journey.
We also had a long talk with Terri Fischer in the gift shop.
She was especially happy to meet our German runner Maria, because she has travelled in Germany herself and has very fond memories of it. She very kindly gave us complementary entry to the Trees of Mystery.
It has beautiful trails between towering trees. Some of them had grown into impressive shapes - the elephant tree and cathedral tree.
The Tree of Brotherhood was particularly appropriate to our group.
The size and age of the trees can be hard to take in.
We met quite a few other tourists in the park, and they all asked about our run and wanted to hold the torch.
There's a cable car leading up to a platform with panoramic views.
Last but not least we met Paul, the giant host to the park.
He talks to everyone going by, especially if they sit on his foot!
We got to stay at our favourite KOA in the country, the award winning Crescent City / Redwoods KOA. Set right in the forest with all the facilities one could ask for. We even watch New Zealand tie Italy!
