USA 29 July: Flat Rock, MI - Lemoyne, OH
Four months on the road really develops some terrific friendships. Trust in one another is crucial for our success.
Atulya hard at work coordinating on the road.
Our first stop today was a bit of a back track to Southgate, MI to visit some lively children at the YMCA.
The counselors were very friendly and supportive.
Thank you all the a wonderful visit.
Thank you Jeanine Halada for running four miles with us. We love to share the road with friends.
Putrima has contributed greatly to the joy-factor on the road.
Bansidhar and Atulya sharing some miles on our way into Monroe.
Salil was delighted to get to the kids at the Monroe YMCA as this meant he could stop running.
Jeromy, our invaluable hotel coordinator, was on hand to share the spirit of the run.
This young man was full of questions.
This young lady was all smiles.
We had a great time running around the field.
Monroe Mayor, Mark Worrell, was on hand to formally welcome us to the city and very kindly gave us all T-shirts - thank you.
We stopped off at a famers' market in Monroe and happened to bump into Mary, who proudly informed us that she is 84 years old. She said if she was still around in two years we could stay at her house.
Shyamala and Putrima got caught by the TV in Toledo as we headed into the Boys and Girls Club.
Come on in and meet the kids at Toledo's Boy's and Girls Club.
Thanks for the great reception and the chilled water - much appreciated.
Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner took us out to a delicious lunch before joining us for a ceremony close by at the Country Day School. It turns out Mayor Finkbeiner not only attended the school but subsequently taught there.
With the help of the students Mayor Finkbeiner presented us with a beautifully framed proclamation.
The proclamation was very heartfelt. Here is a short excerpt we were particularly touched by: "Whereas, the World Harmony Run was founded by Sri Chinmoy, a visionary of peace whose spirit of love and oneness is preserved and perpetuated as the torch passes through the six continents..."
As we said our farewells Mayor Finkbeiner donned a T-shirt and asked us to stay in touch with him.
Pam Summons, our hard working Ohio coordinator, was always on hand to make sure we knew where to go and when.
We had a wonderful supper hosted by Marge and Steve - supporters of the run since as long as anyone can remember.
The whole crew.
Special thanks to La Quinta hotel in Perrysburg for providing two rooms last night.
Special thanks also to the Holiday Inn in Perrysburg for providing two rooms for us.
