USA 12 July: Rapid City, SD - Wanblee, SD

A beautiful morning at Custer State Park.

Brilliant morning sun.

It was invigorating to camp in the Black Hills and the temperature was very cool compared to previous days.

Mt. Rushmore looms in the background. Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln are exemplary examples of Harmony builders and together, they represent the first 150 years of American History. The sculpture rises about 60 feet, and the entire monument covers 1,278 acres.

A stunning profile of President George Washington.

Monolith granite formations in Custer State Park known as the "Needles." We really enjoyed the Black Hills becuase it has a special charm and there are many interesting things to see.

Uddyogini is back on the team!

Prairie runner.

Prairie dog.

These little guys love barking at the runners as they go by. There were thousands of them surrounding us and with a constant chatter. They could only be seen from a distance, usually, because when you got near they would hide in their holes.

David runs through the Badlands in South Dakota.

Got goat!

Badland grandeur.

A city of rock formations full of canyons, ravines, gullies, and hoodoos formed by the erosion of clay-rich soil. Fossil beds can be found here, but we didn't see any dinosaurs.

Manuela holds the torch.  Thanks for your kindness and the watermelon!

Freebird.
