USA 27 May: Mancos, CO - Bluff, UT

Our first ceremony of the day was in Mancos, Co. Darrel Ellis, the town historian, Mayor Michelle Black, and Parks and Rec. coordinator Leslie Hopkins all came out to welcome the run and hold the torch.

We had a beautiful ceremony at the Cultural Center in Cortez where Mayor Orly Lucero as well as many fantastic townspeople came out to take part in the run.

Norman Lopez gave us a soul stirring performance on his Native American flute.

Salil is a man who wears many hats. Not only is he the Executive Director, and a runner, but he is also our videographer.

Dima took running for the hills to another level.

Leaving the incredible snow capped mountains of Colorado, Bansidhar ran into the stunning desert canyons of Utah. The only problem was that he forgot his skis.

Navajo Nation Council Delegate Kenneth Maryboy greeted the runners at Montezma Creek Elementary School.

Kenneth's brother Mark ran 15 miles with our team. We were really impressed with his running and kindness capacity.

They were kind enough to join us for dinner, and share some Navajo history with us. We really enjoyed our time together.

Jitavrata, Homagni, and Dima posed for a shot in front of the striking Twin Rocks in Bluff.

Jeff and Tanya Singleton stopped to hold the torch, and the three of them made a wish for harmony.

Valerie was excited to hold the torch.

This whole family stopped along the road to hold the torch and cheer us along.

Yuyudhan had trouble keeping up with his new friends Brenda Wilson and Scott Gabrielson.

Cindy Tumeh is the owner of the gorgeous Desert Rose Inn, her son Tarrik, brother Steve Simpson, and his son Grange and Abri Hylton all came out for the photo. We had a delightful stay, and are very grateful to them.

The San Juan Trading Post Motel has been a great supporter of ours for years and we had a wonderful stay. Thank you.

– Jitavrata
