USA 16 May: Iola, KS - Nowata, OK
Wow, what a day! Coffeyville Community Elementary School is truly an exceptional school.
Griffin Walker is a hometown hero who has transformed this town with his innovative programs, sleepless effort, and cheerful attitude. Griffin has aquired grant money largely from the state of Kansas in order to begin this unprecedented after school program which includes every boy and girl at the school. The depth to which this program cares and provides for the needs of the children include everything from tutoring all the way to sending someone to pick up medicine for children whose parents are unable to do so. He is currently working on training other potential directors and writing grant proposals on their behalf in order to begin similar programs throughout the state.
The children love to see our running route on our colorful map, and it always reminds us of the true size of our inspired undertaking.
Vajra, representing the Big Apple, and the red, white, and blue.
This young girl was spontaneously inspired to perform for us. She has a beautiful voice and we really enjoyed her singing.
Everyone had lots of fun.
Outside the school, little man Josh held the torch with the team. It is amazing to think that we have friends on other teams running in over 100 countries around the world, all for harmony.
Linda, Wanda, Ed and Lila stopped us on the roadside to take a picture with the torch. This happens 5 or 6 times everyday, and we love it every time.
Dima transfixes the audience with his power over fire...or something like that.
