USA 17 July: Seattle, WA
Professor Shawn Wong, award winning novelist and long-time friend of Sri Chinmoy, holds the World Harmony Torch in Seattle at Silence-Heart-Nest Restaurant on July 17th.
Seattle-Award-winning author Shawn Wong received the Torch Bearer Award today in Seattle during a heart-warming ceremony at Silence-Heart-Nest Restaurant. Shawn is a renowned Professor of English at the University of Washington, where he was Chair as well for 5 years. His first novel, Homebase, has won many awards, and American Knees is another bestseller which was made into an award-winning film and theatrical production!
We are extremely grateful to Shawn for bringing Sri Chinmoy, founder of the World Harmony Run and a poet-seer of the heart, to Seattle to receive the World Peace Literature Award in 1995 and again in 1998 to receive the Light of Asia Award from the University of Washington.
Upon receiving the Torch Bearer Award, Shawn offered these soul-stirring words: "I want to thank everybody for yet another award from a wonderful organisation. Just keep spreading the message of world peace and harmony that Sri Chinmoy started. We certainly know that this message is ever more important.
Professor Shawn Wong , decorated with the Torch Bearer Award, holds the World Harmony Torch with good friends Professor Nayak Polissar (right) and Agraha Levine (left).
Shawn added, "Whatever we can do to be torchbearers in the future is definitely our mission. Whether people even know Sri Chinmoy or have met him, like I have, we need to make his message a universal message from all people around the world."
Shawn's light and humourous touch opens all our hearts to the universal messages he conveys through his words and also through his noble actions.
Congratulations, Shawn!
