USA 5 June: Littlefield, AZ to Mt. Carmel, UT
It started out as a very hot day in Northern Arizona and southern Utah. Our morning team brought plenty of water and ice to stay cool because yesterday it was over 90F or around 30C, so we wanted to be well prepared today. As we started going steadily higher in elevation in the afternoon, it started getting cooler and cooler. By sunset we were donning our long pants and shirts and even some light jackets were put on.
Southern Utah has to be one of the most incredible areas geographically, with beautiful expanding vistas that just take your breath away. As we went through Zion National Park, we could not get enough of the natural beauty and drama that is so prevalent around every corner. We did not meet with any people in particular, but many people stopped to greet us and offer their goodwill.
Cyndi Burns and her son Christopher saw Svetlana running near Zion and then saw me later in the day running with a torch. They stopped me and took photos. It was so nice to see how inspired they were, especially young Christopher who evidently just got out of school for the summer and was traveling from Santa Barbara, California with his lovely mom.
We had no place to stay near our finishing point in Mt. Carmel, so we traveled up to Panguitch. There we were offered a wonderful campsite at the KOA owned by Bob and Kim Hermann. It was getting quite cold and we were also offered some rooms in town so we sadly left the KOA after taking some photos with them and thanking them for such a kind offering. KOA’s have been the best and the kindest to us since we entered the southwest.
In Panguitch, Gary and Colleen Orton kindly offered us two rooms to stay in for the night. They also have high speed internet which makes it so much quicker and easier to update this website. Sandy from the Adobe Sands Motel also was very kind to offer two rooms for the women’s team.
These kind and simple gestures are so important to us and truly embody the spirit of harmony and friendship that is so important in the world today.
As we travel north in this wonderful, mountainous landscape, we are reminded of how lucky and blessed we are to have such incredible support from both nature and our fellow human beings. It almost makes me feel that we can do very little without the love and support of so many others who contribute to this tremendous positive effort to establish harmony in this vast world, one step at a time.
Gratefully,
Arpan and Team Harmony
