USA 2 June: Ash Fork, AZ to Kingman, AZ

Service to Mankind

In Seligman some of us were fortunate enough to visit the Sno-Cone, a retro ice cream quick serve owned and run by Bob and John DelGadillo and their beautiful Mom.

Juan, their father, unfortunately passed a way exactly one year to this day. Juan started this wonderful fast food restaurant in 1953 from scrap wood he had saved. They serve all kinds of lunch foods prepared carefully and thoughtfully. Their motto is that the highest form of religion is service to mankind. They are very humorous in their approach to serving their customers, making a visit there a very memorable and happy one.

Tour buses that travel on Route 66 through Seligman always stop there to have a taste of their food, ice cream and humor. I have been there quite a few times and I am sorry to hear that Juan had passed away exactly one year to the day today. We still remember him with fondness and gratitude and know that his family will carry on in the same spirit of service, kindness and goodwill, similar to the philosophy of the World Harmony Run.

Today’s running was very windy and dry and relatively flat. As we run west in Arizona, just below the Grand Canyon, it is a very different geography. We are much lower in elevation and the air is hotter and dryer. Even though we are running about 50 miles south of the Grand Canyon, one would not think that we are even in the same state because of the contrast in weather and landscapes. Ahead of us lies the beautiful Lake Mead and Hoover Dam which we will reach tomorrow. We know that even when the conditions may not be ideal on a certain day, there will always be more welcoming conditions and enthusiastic people waiting to offer their joy and oneness.

We settled down for the night at the KOA Campground in Kingman. The people there were very friendly and accommodating and the campground is very clean and orderly. They even have high speed wireless internet access which is a great help to us in updating our website. We are grateful to this KOA and the others along the way that have been so generous and friendly to us.

Arpan and Team Harmony
