Singapore 3 June

The Singapore portion of the World Harmony Run was held on 3 June 2007. It was a well organized event and I must admit that I was impressed by the level of commitments from the organizers and their helpers.

The run started off at Bukit Gombak stadium with approximately 50 or 60 runners. It was nice and inspiring to see so many people committed to this idea of world harmony. The total distance covered by the run was about 25km and along the way, the run stopped at Muslim mosques, a Hindu temple and a Buddhist temple.

I was also happy to know that the local newspaper sends a reporter and photographer to report this event. It was also encouraging to see new runners in this event and one of them even transcended herself by running a much longer distance that what she would have done so, under normal circumstances.

This year we saw the largest turnout of 70 runners from almost every corner of the island. Their enthusiasm was so contagious that everyone in the group was feeling on top of the world. For many of the runners, this is their first participation and they were so surprised by the amount of joy they felt. It was a happy sight for many people on the streets. Many looked a bit puzzled and amazed by what they saw.

After all, this run is still at its infancy here in Singapore. Perhaps someday this event will become nationally recognized.

In the end, I felt happy and encouraged that we have people who are committed to organizing this harmony run and I do believe that the next Harmony Run will be an even bigger event.

We would like to give appreciation to the following people, who have made this event so successful. They are :

1. Mr. AC Leong - who assisted from the very beginning in the organizing the event especially in the registration process.

2. Mdm Jenap - who despite a knee injury, still showed up on event day to help up

in more ways then one. Mdm Jenap has been the one of the most loyal fan of this event from the first time she participated.

She and her husband have always been very helpful.

3. Mr Vincent Ng and Mr Ravi. - they have been very encouraging

4. And we must not forget all the 70 runners who made the enormous effort in making this run the most successful event ever here in Singapore. Running in tropical Singapore at noon time under the blazing sun forgoing lunch meal was no small feat.

From the stops we have the following people to thank, they are;

1. Mr Majid, Mr Latiff and Ms Tazlinda from Ar-Raudhah Mosque.
2. Ms Harlinah from Darussalam Mosque.
3. Ms Jeniffer and Ms Valery from Singapore Buddhist Youth Mission
4 Mr Devaraja from Sri Muneeswaran Temple
5. Mr Dabara Singh from Silat Road Sikh Temple
