Russia 23 June: St. Petersburg - Luga

Good Morning. It is 9 o'clock and we are about to start running, from Victory Square in St.Petersburg. Everybody enjoyed the free day we had yesterday. Lenka and Stepanka are already on their way to the airport, to go back home after the more than two weeks they spent on the Run. Thank you girls - we wish you the best of luck !!

Just before the start, we placed flowers at the monument that commemorates the victims of WW2. After singing our World Harmony Run song, we are really ready to run off. Let's go...

One of the friendly policemen who helped us so.o.o.o.o.o much. They not only stop traffic for us, but also guide us and make sure the runner is safe when we run on busy roads like we did today: the M20 towards Luga.

Jewgenij comes back from a short trip into nature with my camera; he has discovered the joy of a macro lens...

...yes, we really run through almost all the countries of Europe!

Tamas is enjoying his first day on the Run. He has already run 10 km by lunchtime.

On our way, we passed this wooden church. One of our Russian team members tells us that there are many similar churches in other regions of Russia. They are very old and are built in a very special way - without using nails! Can you imagine?

Sun is shining, weather is sweet...

In Kobrinskoe we were received at the house where the great Russian poet, Pushkin grew up. Two city representatives came to meet us. They kindly welcomed us in the traditional way, with bread and salt.

This is inside the house of Pushkin's nanny. We are being told a lot of stories about the life of farmers around the end of the 18th century. While listening, we have tea and a lot of baked goods - and, of course, Russian chai (tea).

Yes, it's no problem to run in a suit. Look closely: You can see the WHR T-shirt underneath the tie. Thank you everyone for the nice time we had...

...and I am telling you, the motor way should be there. Really! I don't know what happened...

A little late, we finally arrive in Luga. Thank you to all the children who accompanied us the last couple of kilometres from the city limits.

- Martin Leitner
