Polska 5 June: Mamonovo - Sztum

Welcome to Poland! We left Russia in the morning and we would like to thank once more all our runners and friends for the great time we spent there!

..the Polish border police gave us a great welcome...

...and even ran with us!

...runners from the border police carried the torch to the first meeting place...

...we met runners from Braniewo...

...and more runners....

...a whoel street party went downtown...

...the mayor welcomed us with kind words on the main square...

Poland is getting ready for the European Football Championship. With this enthusiasm they will do very well!

Thank you Braniewo!

...and we went on to Frombork, where more runners joined!

Fromborg is an old traditional place loaded with history. The famous astronomist Kopernikus was living here for some time...

..it is said that Kopernikus is also burried in the "Frauenkirche", the dome of Frombork...

...the mayor of Frombork welcomed us...

Thanks for the hospitality!

...and we reached Elblag. In a sport stadium athletes welcomed us and joined us for a run through their city...

...time was fleeting. We reached Malbork, where a school class was meeting us...

...with a good pace we ran to the city hall....

At the city hall the city president received us warmly and we have been served nice refreshments!

Thank you Malbork for the hospitality!

Finally we reached Sztum. A runners club, young runners and a cycling club greeted us...

...the city representative for sports received the torch...

...young and old passed the torch...

...a final run our of Sztum ended our first busy day in Poland. Thanks for the enthusiasm!
