New Zealand 19 June 2006: West Auckland

At Henderson Primary School we talked about the fact that the World Harmony Run torch has been held by quite a few famous people, like Pope John Paul II , Mother Teresa and Muhammad Ali . Upon hearing that Nelson Mandela has held the torch, the principal of this school (who happens to be South African) raced over and eagerly took her turn to hold it!

Next we ran to Te Atatu where we entered Flanshaw Road School together with some of the students who had come to meet us at the end of the road. We were presented with an amazing Maori welcome. The hall echoed and reverberated with stomping feet and booming singing. Alesha and Manatita gave a talk about the World Harmony Run and answered questions, and then some of the children signed the big world map that we carry with us. They all lined the road to bid us farewell as we ran out and off to our next destination.

Rain started pouring down just as we entered Western Heights Primary. Just in time to avoid the heavy downpour, we entered into another warm dry school hall filled with little faces looking up. This is always a thrill for us. The children sang us a song and then we sang the World Harmony Run song for them. This was a lovely ending to a fun day.
