Norway 30 June: Oslo
The sun gleamed through our large paned windows and woke us gently on this clear Friday morning. While 14 guys coordinate the timing of their morning procedures at our flat here in Majorstua, Oslo, our four girls make themselves ready at our café "The Fragrance of the Heart", located by the picturesque harbour.
A good way up the mountain, Oslo's Sporting high school serves as the arena for a children's sports summer camp, our first destination.
The team is happy to meet a well-numbered group of children again; such groups have been scarce now during the summer holidays. The children show remarkable skill at guessing all our countries quite quickly, and are eager to join our team and run with us.
Holmenkollen with its famous ski-jump is visible from all around Oslo. It's a very special landmark. You can stroll around in various parts of the city, look up, exclaim, "Oh, look! There is Holmenkollen!", and you feel happy.
Here we admire the plaque proclaiming the whole city of Oslo, which lies visibly beneath, as a Peace Capital - another initiative inspired by Sri Chinmoy, founder of the World Harmony Run. Later we are kindly allowed to visit the ski museum and go up to the top of the ski tower, where the beautiful panorama of sea, lakes, mountains forests and various habitats stretch out in all directions.
Frognerpark houses many statues of people that exhibit the range of emotions and relations, which can be encountered throughout the lifeline of a human life. It attracts many tourists and today is no exception, as we find out on our way through.
By a towering obelisk sculptured into a mesh of human bodies, Colm holds a spontaneous presentation to a group of well-placed tourists, who seem very touched by the beautiful message of the run.
The serene gardens of the Royal Palace eventually give way to the palace itself, where palace guards patrol the grounds.
Down from the Palace we glide down into Karl Johan's gate, surely the busiest street in all of Oslo this time of year and then by the City Hall.
At the Radhus (City Hall) we make a stop to give two of our lovely workers at the "Fragrance of the Heart" café a chance to hold the torch. They are very nice and the coffee is amazing! You should visit this place and see for yourself.
We end the run by the Harbour at the Eternal Peace Flame , a sacred flaming monument, strengthening the hearts of all who come to examine it with the message of real and eternal peace, within and without.
This special monument was dedicated by Sri Chinmoy , the founder of our World Harmony Run.
Here we helped Ondrej to take a nice picture of it, as he makes a lot of effort every day to take good pictures for this web site and to lead the team !
Having an early end to the day, gives the team a chance to catch up on their laundry. Part of the team go swimming to Sognsvann lake, embedded in the pristine womb of mother nature's softly and radiantly forested mountains, before heading back to our apartment to relish in Jadranka's magical cooking.
This is Premananda, your guest writer, signing off and wishing you all a good night.
