Kenya 14 November: Nakuru
Welcome in our school! We had been welcomed by the Head Mistress of a school that is part of Jimmy Sherlock's program. In his program, families and companies support children financially so that they can go to school.
Jambo! (Hello)
We presented our program, and passed the Torch around.
Jimmy was very enthusiastic about our activities and shared his enthusiasm with the children.
Also in this school we brought gifts for all children.
And the school got paintings to hang in the class rooms.
Puneeta distributed drawings made by Swiss children for Kenyan children. As a return, the children from this school drawn hearts for the children in Switzerland.
We had a ceremony to start the construction of the new schoolbuilding. The head mistress donated the land where the construction will take place, so she was the first one to dig the ground.
The new school will be a two story building with a beautiful view.
Then we went to the meeting place to start running!
The start of our running was at the train station, but where are the people?
We passed around the Torch while waiting for everybody to arrive.
Jimmy Sherlock has a program to support children in Kenya. Companies and families can support children by paying for their education. Every company or family is represented by a t-shirt. He made pictures with each group of children. Each family will receive a picture of their children.
The girl on the left is an artist,..
....this is one of her beautiful drawings.
There came more and more students, all to run together.
The smallest kids were all put in a truck, so that they could watch the run to the University.
We were guided by our leading motocycle. The cameraman sat at the back, to be on top position to film the group.
The students sang for us the school anthem.
The main hall was packed.
Jimmy Sherlock presented his Reborn Outreach program to students and officials. He received a Torch Bearer Award last year in New York. He said: "This award made me think bigger!"
We also gave an award to Boniface Muhia, Chairman of the Nakuru Business Association,
Representative of Prof. J.K. Tuitoek, Vice Chancellor of the Egerton University and
Prof. A.K. Kahi, Dean of Egerton University School of Agriculture
The media recorded the entire event.
For some of the young ones, the program was a little too long.
After the meeting all students lined up to get a present.
The smaller children were brought back to their school.
And we did some networking...
The organizer of this meeting, George Kimani, CEO of Reborn International received a Torch Bearer Award for his work with Reborn Outreach and for his participation in our World Harmony Run.
At the end of the day, we picked up the lugguage and had to get ready to drive back to Nairobi. Since there was not enough space in the van for the lugguage, we had to improvise... Team work!
The World Harmony Run proudly supports the International Year of Youth (IYY) and the International Year of Forests (IYF) proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly.
See the recent Youtube video on African experience which illustrates IYY slogan "Our Year Our Voice" International Year of Youth - Zambia World Harmony. They surprisingly mention Presidents and UN Secretary-General in a unique way!
