Ireland 1 April: Waterford - Rathdrum
Those who were up bright and early this morning enjoyed the beautiful coastline close to our hostel in Tramore.
We had two school visits in Waterford City this morning. The first was to St. Declans National School where we were greeted in many different languages by children representing different nationalities.
The children had prepared some very creative artwork with help of their teacher, Mrs. Greene. Principal Doran was delighted have the team visiting his school.
Meanwhile the second half of the team visited St.Ursula's Convent, where we were greeted by Principal Heydon.
Shortly after our school visits we met with Deputy Mayor Mary O'Halloran of Waterford City. She was delighted to invite us into the city hall and expressed sincere admiration for the ideals of the World Harmony Run.
It was then time to put in the mileage. We ran from Waterford to Wexford on roads that meandered through the countryside.
Colm even did a 5km stint with his big green hat.
In Wexford the children in The Mercy National School were waiting in anticipation of the teams arrival. They had formed a large guard of honour which we ran through as we entered the school.
Mayor of Wexford Ted Howlin attended the school presentation and had many kind words to say the run.
In the afternoon we left the larger roads and enjoyed the peace and beauty of small country roads. The sun shone warmly and everywhere there were signs of spring bursting forth.
Boijayanti made a friend along the way.
We are very grateful to Martin Hansard of Lugnaquilla House Hostel for putting us up and cooking a lovely vegetarian stew....
