Great Britain 27 June: Cardiff - Bristol
This morning we drove from Bristol to Cardiff, to include wonderful Wales in our UK journey. We covered the distance by running back to Bristol in the afternoon.
Steve, from Cardiff, leads the team to our first destination...
Teekhnata, from California, presents the World Harmny Run at Albany Primary School. Also, a BIG thankyou to Mr Stephen Thomas, a very good friend and supporter of the Harmony Run (hidden in thedoorway).
Go!! Lenka starts the race in this skit demonstrating harmony.
The children enthusiastically took part in the ceremony...
The Headmistress, Mrs Angela Lepore, embraced the message of the World Harmony Run and her peaceful ideals radiate through the school.
As we passed the torch around, for the children to make wishes for peace, they sang the World Harmony Run song with gusto!
The Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Councillor Delme Bowen and Lady Mayoress, Ms Pamela Morgan, kindly joined us for the events in the city.We are so grateful for their warming presence.
The Lord Mayor kept the pace, running 'around the world' with the children...
and even joined in the fun by collecting the passport stamps of the continents on his hand.
Joyfully comparing stamps.
Running enthusiast Dafydd Trystan, along with Jodi, a teacher at Albany Primary School ran a couple of miles with us on this humid day.
As we came through Roath Park Sarah spontaneously ran with us around the lake. It spreads so much joy when people accompany us.
A moment's reflection by the Sri Chinmoy Peace Capital plaque. We attempted to sing the World Harmony song in Welsh for the Lord Mayor who is a great champion of the Welsh language:
Run, run, run, run, run, run,
World Harmony Run
We are the oneness and fulness
Of tomorrow's sun
Rhedwch, rhedwch, redwch,
Rhediad tangnefedd y byd
Undod a chyflawnder
Haul yfory
Ydyn ni
Quite a mouthful but we gave it our best!
Yum! Thank you to the Welsh organisers! We enjoyed our lunch at Terra Nova Cafe.
Next stop is the Temple of Peace, in the United Nations Peace Garden, where the plaque dedicating Wales as a Sri Chinmoy Peace Nation is situated.
We were happy to have Becky's brother, Mathew, come to meet the team.
Passing Cardiff Castle on our way to...
...Cardiff's most elite running store - 'Run and Become'.
Staff members Chitika and Becky on the shop floor.
Another staff member, Angela from Ireland, ran many miles with us on the way back to Bristol.
We could hardly keep up with her! She is an extremely talented athlete, currently training for the Duathalon World Championships (under 23). Her half marathon personal best is an impressive 1 hour 22 minutes.
Abichal, from Wales, is an experienced ultra runner who is used to putting in the miles.
Diolch yn fawr iawn Gymru! Thank you very much Wales!
We had a wonderful time in this beautiful country - shame it was over so soon.
Thank you to the Hotel Ibis Temple Meads Quay for donating two nights of comfortable accommodation.
The Novotel were amazingly generous, supplying the whole team with most delicous gourmet meals two nights in a row.
The World Harmony Run proudly supports the International Year of Youth (IYY) and the International Year of Forests (IYF) proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly.
See the recent Youtube video on African experience which illustrates IYY slogan "Our Year Our Voice" International Year of Youth - Zambia World Harmony. They surprisingly mention Presidents and UN Secretary-General in a unique way!
