Germany 7 July: Gechingen - Amstetten
This morning we started in Gechingen, in the Black Forest. Although schools and city halls are closed on Saturday, a few kids came to the start and joined us for a few steps!
Germany is a country of running mayors; almost everybody takes the torch for a few metres. We really appreciate this attitude!
Empty country roads through beautiful scenery under a blue sky made the day a perfect running experience!
As we reached Schafhausen, the mayor and a few inhabitants welcomed us. The mayor took the torch and ran quite a distance uphill with us!
At noon we reached Stuttgart, where Mrs. Kienzle, the city representative and an old friend of the World Harmony Run, received us warmly with some delicious refreshments.
Finally, she lead the team on a very fast lap (she was an athlete in former years...) around the main square!
People joined in spontaneously as we ran through Stuttgart!
Later on we reached Kirchheim unter Teck, a most beautiful village with traditional architecture.
The mayor welcomed us in front of a beautiful old city hall. She gave a nice speech and when it came to the point of running, she simply took off her high heel-shoes and sprinted barefoot through the pedestrian area!
The last event took place in Geislingen. After the introduction and some small talk, the mayor ran with us through the centre of the city.
In the evening Rainer, our friend from Augsburg, supported us with a great meal spontaneously served in the parking lot!
One way to spend the evening: an improvised game of chess!
