Costa Rica 5 July: Puerto Limon revisited!
The Run started at Puerto Limon on the East coast of Costa Rica. Congressman from Limon Edwin Deive Patterson Bent joined us once again to travel with the torch through his city. With a wide array of participants gathered by Ebony and Bruce, a wonderful couple who live in New York with Costa Rican roots. They organized the Run through Puerto Limon and kept things as fun as can be. It was a beautiful day (our 3rd without the notorious 2:30pm deluge of rain!) and we enjoyed it to the fullest.
Bhashwar and his sister Karabi grew up in Puerto LImon and moved to America in 1961 when they were still children. Happily, at our first stop on the run at a church Bhashwar ran into one of his schoolmates from the '50s! It was a great homecoming for the sister and brother team and the memories that came back as we made our way through the town were plentiful.
At the church young and old alike joined in to travel through the centre of town with the torch.
A lead car played music as the Run was announced to curious spectators coming out along the way.
Once at "Central Park" we gathered the group for photos and refreshments.
Ebony, Bruce and their friends and family brought down suitcases full of toys and children's clothing to distribute to all the kids, making sure everyone received something and made them happy.
Natabara put together a balsa wood plane for a boy. "Simple toys for simple joy" seemed to be the theme of the day, only made more fun by the "chance" arrival of a man with an ice cream wagon. Suchana was quick to seize upon the opportunity and soon everyone was lined up and treated to an ice cream. The adults also made a local coconut salesman quite happy as iced coconut water was sipped.
Bruce (right) and Ebony (centre) were a superb host and hostess team, and we can't thank them and their family and friends enough for making such a wonderful day out of the Puerto Limon World Harmony Run.
