Canada 30 May: Parliament Hill, Ottawa
The WHR torch has traveled from the West coast of Canada to the centre of the mainland, and today the torch was mounted on Parliament Hill and its message was sounded from the heart of the nation.
Students, cultural groups, government officials and members of the diplomatic community gathered as the torch was borne into the assembly by runners from Saint Patrick's Intermediate School and the University of Ottawa's Gee Gee cross-country team.
The procession of runners circled the hill with streaming flags and the flaming torch, past the eternal flame and into the centre of the assembly.
Distinguished guests including The Hon. Peter Milliken, Speaker for the House of Commons, The Hon.Laurier Lapierre, retired senator and Officer of the Order of Canada, The Hon. Michael D. Chong, Minister for Sports, and The Hon. Mac Harb, member of the Senate, addressed the audience with torch in hand.

A parade of citizens from a variety of cultural communities, decked in the distinctive costumes of their native lands, crossed the stage saying the word "harmony" and the name of their country as they passed.
Students and teachers from the Montessori school led the audience in a song about peace and children displayed the artistic contributions of students from across Canada on the theme of harmony. The assembly concluded as the panoply of guests took the stage for a group photo.
