After The World Harmony Run Torch was carried in the Earth Day Walk to the Legislature Buildings in Victoria, B.C. on April 22, its next appearance was at Quadra Elementary School just after noon on April 24. 300 people, including students and teachers, and Patricia Irwin, Shirley St. Pierre, Jauvana Westwood, and Jhalmala Gibb of the World Harmony Run team were present with the torch and banners.

The World Harmony Run team ran in to the school, ran around the circle of kids, then slowly passed the torch hand-to-hand around the entire circle as the World Harmony Run song was played, allowing each individual (student or teacher) to touch the torch and make a silent wish for world harmony.

Tom Ferris, the Trustee of the Greater Victoria School District, and John Faucett, the Principal of Quadra Elementary, were present.

Tom Ferris read out the World Harmony Week proclamation, offically declaring the week April 23 to April 30 to be World Harmony Week in British Columbia; the Proclamation of Queen Elizabeth, Head of the Commonwealth, was signed by Wally Oppal, the Attorney General and Minister Responsible for Multiculturalism, and witnessed by Allen Melvin, Administrator of British Columbia.

World Harmony ribbons were handed out to the children and they were given ice cream.

Everyone was smiling, and there was an undeniably beautiful feeling of uplifting the whole world when the torch was passed around.

The weather was perfect - balmy & sunny - and everybody's spirits were very high. Hearty applause sent the runners and torch on their way across Canada!

La version canadienne de la Course canadienne est lancée...

La Course de l'harmonie mondiale canadienne a bien débuté aujourd'hui à Victoria, Colombie-Britannique, avec une proclamation déclarant la semaine du 23 au 30 avril comme étant la Semaine de l'harmonie mondiale pour la province de la Colombie-Britannique.

L'école élémentaire Quadra:

Après qu'on ait porté le flambeau jusqu'aux édifices de la législature à Victoria lors de la marche "Earth Day Walk", le 22 avril, on le présente de nouveau à l'école élémentaire Quadra un peu après midi le 24 avril. Trois cents personnes, incluant étudiants et professeurs, ainsi que Patricia Irwin, Shirley St-Pierre, Jauvana Westwood et Jhalmala Gibb de l'Équipe de la Course de l'harmonie mondiale, étaient présents, arborant flambeau et bannière.

L'Équipe de la Course de l'harmonie mondiale a couru jusqu’à l'école, puis autour d'une ronde formée par les enfants pour ensuite lentement passer le flambeau de main en main autour du cercle alors qu’on pouvait entendre la chanson-thème de la Course. Chacun a saisi l'occasion pour toucher le flambeau et formuler en silence un voeu pour l'harmonie mondiale.

M.Tom Ferris, curateur du District de la Ville du grand Victoria, et M. Johan Faucett, directeur de l'école élémentaire Quadra, étaient aussi présents.

M.Ferris a lu la proclamation de la semaine de l'harmonie mondiale, déclarant de ce fait que la période du 23 au 30 avril était reconnue comme étant Semaine de l'harmonie mondiale en Colombie-Britannique; la proclamation de Sa Majesté la Reine Élizabeth, chef du Commonwealth, a été signée par M. Wally Oppal, procureur général et ministre responsable du Multiculturalisme et attestée par M. Allen Melvin, administrateur pour la province de la Colombie-Britannique.

Des rubans de l'harmonie mondiale ainsi que de la crème glacée ont été distribués aux enfants.

Tous étaient souriants et un sentiment enlevant fut ressenti alors que le flambeau passait de main en main.

Les conditions étaient idéales – un temps doux et ensoleillé - et l'état d'âme était élevé. De chaleureux applaudissements couronnèrent le départ des coureurs et du flambeau pour leur traversée du Canada!

The World Harmony Run Canada got off to a flying start this week in Victoria, British Columbia, commencing with the Proclamation of the week April 23 to April 30 as World Harmony Week in the province of British Columbia.

The World Harmony Torch's first outing was actually on 22/4/06 in the Earth Day Walk to the Legislature Buildings in Victoria, B.C., two days before it's cross-Canada journey began.
