Australia 1 April: Perth

A two-day athletic carnival – the Australian Athletic Championships – held recently in Perth attracted top athletes from around Australia. Grahak Cunningham and Prabuddha Nicol from the World Harmony Run team attended the twilight meet last Friday at the new sports stadium in Perry Lakes and were able to get photos of two top athletes holding the World Harmony Run Torch.

Sally Pearson hold WHR Torch

Commonwealth Games golden girl Sally Pearson, cooling down after her 200 metre run, held the torch trackside while other events continued. Sally’s surprise silver medal in the 100 metre hurdles at the 2008 Beijing Olympics made her a household name. Last year she took gold in the Delhi Commonwealth Games. She is also the Australian record holder for the 100 hurdles and has the second fastest all-time Australian 100 metre time.

Fabrice Lapierre holds WHR Torch

Fabrice Lapierre, known as a future force to be reckoned with, is currently the world indoor long jump champion. He holds the 5th best long jump in history, with an 8.78 metre jump. And was one of the lucky few on Australia's Greatest Athlete list for 2011.

Both junior and senior competitors enjoyed the warm, still weather conditions of Perth.
