Australia 24 May: Melbourne

It was a very quiet day today in Melbourne, starting with 'Runners Are Smilers' a two-mile race the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team puts on every Saturday morning.

The runners observed a moment of prayerful silence before sprinting off to begin the race...

Colm took the early lead and held on to it firmly throughout, winning the race...

Atul crept up on Edi and overtook him – it was a beautiful morning run along the river.

Afterwards, a special Torch-Bearer Award was given to Tony De Domenico, a very dear friend of World Harmony Run founder Sri Chinmoy.

Tony said a few very gracious words and was moved by the recognition and gesture from Prachar Stegemann, National Co-ordinator of the World Harmony Run.

The final meeting of the day was with AFL legend Nathan Buckley, the retired captain of the Collingwood Magpies.

Nathan was kind enough to take some time out to meet the Run and we spoke of his career as a Magpie; his subsequent injuries that forced him to retire last year after a long and successful career; and a few personal comparisons with American football.

We shared a few anecdotes from the Harmony Run and he told some stories of his young son and his own running,

We left very impressed with his humility, even after being a superstar in his chosen field, as well as his warm openness to our running team. We wish you well in your future endeavours Nathan.

We had a very refreshing night's sleep thanks to our wonderful hosts at Hotel Unilodge on Flinders. They were very to kind to offer complimentary and particularly comfortable accommodation to a number of our runners during our stay in Melbourne.
