Australia 19 May: Stratford – Warragul
Team A
Teams A & B had an early start today at the Stratford ABC Radio station for a live interview before starting the day's mileage to Sale and Rosedale.
Following the interview, we were very pleased to meet and congratulate our new friend Brenda in Sale, who was more than thrilled to become a recipient of the Torch-Bearer Award.
Sale College gave us a very warm welcome – this was one of the nicest school receptions our team has been to.
The Students from years 10, 11 and 12 asked the team many interesting questions and were very eager and enthusiastic to hold the torch and make a wish for world harmony.
Rebecca McNamara is one of the outstanding students of Sale College who was happy to be presented with the Torch-Bearer Award.
The school principal, Brendan Staple, then received our Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of all the staff and students of Sale College.
As the sun sets on another glorious day of the World Harmony Run making its way through Victoria, we found some inspired young soccer stars at the local football field, who were only too happy to engage our soccer-playing team-members from Iceland, Ukraine, Italy and Ireland. Thank you to Martin, Ivica, Anthony & Thomas for a memorable & competitive match in your beautiful home town of Warragul!
Team B
The reception afforded us by the Rosedale Primary School today was warm and cheerful,
with a special young lady – Leesa Danks – receiving the Torch-Bearer Award for her courageous and self-giving heart in the fight against Leukaemia:
after answering some questions from the students...
and offering our Certificate of Appreciation to the school...
we handed over the torch to the kids...
who prayed...
and laughed...and ran.
Onwards to Traralgon Council Chambers for a well-scripted and timed ceremony featuring Mayor Bruce Lougheed, perhaps the most heartfelt Mayor I have ever come across! Mayor Lougheed told us his personal philosophy, handed down from his father, which is always to be to others – no matter where they come from – the same way you want them to be to you...
and judging by his acceptance of us and his welcome for our team he treats everyone with special concern.
The organisers had brought a flag there representing the country of each team member, members of the community from many different groups and school kids had all been invited to greet us – a demonstration of this town's commitment to living in harmony. This experience was very impressive and we left knowing we have friends following us throughout our journey.
Thank you Traralgon!
Meanwhile we extend our deep gratitude to Craig at the Best Western Aspen Motor Inn in Sale for his kindness and generosity to us all.

Team C
After running our miles from Khancoban to Corryong on Saturday, the poor weather conditions on the unsealed roads to Omeo forced our team to take a monster detour that ended up taking two days! The journey was mostly beautiful – we were blessed by a multitude of rainbows that offered their magic directly over the fields along our route.
We continued into the Mt Hotham end of the Alpine National Park. The ascent was steady and to our great delight we were soon driving through snow. Our international runner-guests were astonished, having not expected to see snow in Australia.
As we ascended higher and higher, the snowfall became heavier and our delight gave way to grave concern. Our 12-seater van was sliding across a road that had precipitous drops on either side. An unexpected predicament!
Thank God for mobile phones! We called other team members for assistance, leaving further action in their capable hands. Darkness soon set in, the snowfall continued and the temperature dropped considerably.
We had a three hour wait but assistance did arrive. We were spared from spending the night in the van when two extremely kind emergency workers arrived, fitted chains on our wheels and drove with extreme care back down the mountain through the persistent snowfall.
Although we were disappointed to be so far from joining the rest of the team in an unreachable Omeo we were, of course, much more grateful to be safe and warm way on the other side of the mountains in the town of Bright.
Very happy to be back on the road again, today we visited two schools – Elizabeth Street Primary School in Moe
and Trafalgar High School.
We enjoyed both schools immensely and delighted in the numerous requests from students at both schools who wanted to join the World Harmony Run Team.
After the school ceremonies we ran along some beautiful country back-roads from Moe to Warragul.
