Australia 16 May: Adelaide
Today, members and supporters of the World Harmony Run went off-route to Grange Primary School for a visit as an introduction to this event before the school makes an excursion into Rundle Mall to attend our Welcome Ceremony on June 5th.
We had a ceremony with Miss Sue Reynolds' grade 5 class and Mr Trevor Potter's grade 4 class. Sixty excited and curious children greeted us as we entered the meeting room with the Torch. We were cheerfully welcomed with a projection up on the classroom wall of an aphorism by the founder Sri Chinmoy about harmony.
The children had obviously been thinking of how they could bring harmony into their own lives and very enthusiastically chanted the World Harmony Run motto 'Harmony Begins with Me' very loudly all together!
Later we ventured outside amidst the rain puddles to hold the Torch and pass it between all our friends. Upon receiving the Torch one student asked his teacher thoughtfully, "I don't know what to wish for". The teacher suggested, "what about wishing for harmony within yourself? That's a very important wish!" The boy instantly closed his eyes and his lips began mouthing out a soulful wish.
Everyone loved joining in singing the World Harmony Run song and did the actions for these with joyful participation.
In fact afterwards, the music teacher said she had heard about our event from Miss Reynolds and would like to bring her school choir to perform the World Harmony Run song at our Adelaide Ceremony!
It was wonderful visiting Grange Primary today – a school that had already participated in the Peace Run many years ago – and we look forward to meeting again when our Team from the road arrives at the Welcome Ceremony in Adelaide next month. Thank you.
