USA 24 July: Hammond, IN - Galien, MI
Seen from our accommodations early in the morning. We're about to get a litle wet!
Our first stop of the day was in Whiting to meet Mark Adam, the Clerk Treasurer, and some other City officials. We were so impressed with the reception waiting for us, especially considering the weather was torrential rain, thunder and lightening! Our enthusiastic reception party also had drinks and food all set up for us, and on top of that presented us with pins and bags from the City of Whiting, thank you so much!!
Our next stop was to visit Whiting City Hall to meet the mayor of East Chicago, Anthony Copeland.
Mr Copeland gave us a very heartfelt welcome to the City of East Chicago, we were so happy he could meet our team!
We presented a certificate of appreciation to the City of East Chicago...
And got a team photo with the Mayor!
We had police escourts for most of our days running today, thank you so much to Police departments from Hammond, Whiting, East Chicago and Gary for ensuring our safety and supporting the team out on the roads!!
Kagni from Finland had her first day running with the team today...WELCOME KAGNI!!!
Palash is also rejoining the team for a week, she was with us earlier from Seattle to Montana, WELCOME BACK PALASH!!
Katya was overjoyed to be joined by a fellow Ukranian, Savadara, for the day, who is presently living in Chicago.
Our next stop was the YWCA in Gary, where we had an incredible programme waiting for us!!
The programme was opened by the Mayor of Gary, Karen Freeman-Wilson.
Karen gave a deeply moving welcome to the team and presented us with an indepth Proclaimation for the City of Gary to observe this day, July 24th, as World Harmony Day in Gary, thank you so much! It was received by our Chicago area co-ordinator, Mayankinee, who did a super job organising the last few days events, thank you Mayankinee!
Local Senator Earline Rogers was a guest speaker for the occasion, she also gave a beautiful and inspiring speech.
Denise Brown, the YWCA CEO organised the programme, she did a wonderful job!!
The kids began the programme with a powerful performance of the World Harmony Run song...
Can anyone guess Ukraine??
The kids all had flags from the countries of the runners who were there, ie the New Zealand flag!
We made some great new friends!!
Even the local police escourts came along!
The kids were so eager to ba a part of everything, even rolling up the banner!!
The final touch was water bottles printed with World Harmony run stickers, we love you all, thanks a million for your heart-felt oneness!!
Welcome to the team LAZLO from HUNGARY!!
We were very happy to meet with New Buffalo Deputy Mayor Margaret "Migs" Murray.
Some people will do anything to hold the torch!!
We love making new friends..
Salil was enamoured by this lovely lady on a passing bike...
Beth Denton, (centre, next to Harita), very kindly provided dinner for the whole team, then invited us all to meet with her family and friends at the local beach on Lake Michigan, thank you so much, Beth, it was wonderful to make friends with you all!!
