USA 10 May: Thebes, IL - Smithton, ILL

The rain held off, but the fog was thick during the early morning hours.

The sun slowly appeared through the fog as Vajra ran his miles along the flood plains of the Mississippi.

Due to the volume of rain, these plains were indeed sadly flooded through much of our running route.

We are constantly meeting new and friendly faces on the run. Austin and his mother pulled over on the roadside in order to offer us some cold drinks and hold the torch.

Joe Harrison and Susan Fenn were in the middle of their 2000 mile bike ride down the Mississippi when we joyfully met.

These five bikers were slightly different than the previous ones, however they where equally excited about our journey and truly appreciated the importance of the Harmony Run.

Mary Landi (above) drove down with Sukantika all the way from Chicago to help us run our miles. We were grateful for their help.

Dima knocked out his daily miles with ease.

In Bellville, IL we attended the first annual Get Up and Go event, in celebration of their successful program designed to encourage exercise and a healthy lifestyle.

The children runners escorted the torch to the ceremony.

Co-Directors Mark Peters and Dr. Rita Arras held the torch and were gracious hosts to us, and we really enjoyed being a part of their program.

Get Up and Go spokesperson and three time Olympian runner Craig Virgin held the torch and offered words of support and encouragement to our team. In 1980, when Craig was at the peak of his running career, he met with Sri Chinmoy in New York and received a beautiful poem from him. He spoke very affectionately about his meeting with the founder of the World Harmony Run.

This beautiful Reverend wished us well on our journey.

Chidroopa, Vilupti's daughter flew from New York to spend Mother's Day with her mom and the team.

Chetana, Nayana, Sukantika, and Mary treated the team to a delicious Indian meal. It was so nice of them to come out on the run and they took great care of us. Thank you all!

We will sadly miss our great teammate and good friend Anne. She is returning to Finland and we will miss her gentle way and her impressive running capacity. Gratitude.
