USA 21 May: Clarendon, TX to Hereford, TX

A gorgeous Texas sunrise greeted us in the vast pasture lands of the Dude Ranch.

Some of us were up by 6:00 a.m. for some silent reflection and perhaps a few stretching exercises before catching the brilliant sunrise through the treetops at the Bar H Dude Ranch where we spent the peaceful night in Clarendon, Texas.

Morning yoga strengthens the tired body.

Frank and Terry, the owners, and their family, were extremely generous to us and now were preparing breakfast as well. It was difficult to leave this natural paradise of harmony and friendship, but we had another long day of running ahead of us.

Three TV stations interviewed us simultaneously in Amarillo, Texas.

The two morning teams were able to reach Amarillo on foot where we stopped at a Holiday Inn to meet some local press that were interested in meeting us and covering our story. Matt Orlando from News 4 KAMR and his cameraman Aaron were very thorough in their interviews and coverage of our team.

Matt even led our afternoon team of runners to their starting point and ran a short distance with Julian, the first runner out. We actually were able to see the coverage this evening and we must say that we were impressed with the way Matt was able to put it all together in a creative and still quite accurate manner.

These smiles were born and raised on a Texas ranch.

Even though we did not have any big ceremonies today, the fact that three television stations covered our event was thrilling and satisfying to us as we try to reach as many people as possible with the inspiration we carry from one community to the next everyday. One local runner, Anna Scamahorn, did come to the hotel to meet us. She belongs to the Lone Star Runners Club based in Amarillo and even though she was not prepared to run with us at the time, her inspiration and support was well appreciated.

The temperature soared again to around 100 F (about 37 C) as our final team made their way towards Hereford, our last stop of the day. Some of us were able to take a short side trip to an amazing State Park called Palo Duro Canyon, not far from Amarillo. It is a natural wonder to behold, a kind of mini-Grand Canyon of sorts. It gives one a sense of geographical time in a very long historical perspective. One could see millions of years of evolution of the earth exposed in the layers of rock in the sides of the canyon. The colors were brilliant red earthy with stripes of white and other shades mixed in. It was certainly a good teaser for the Grand Canyon as we make our way to Arizona and in a week or so have two full days off of running to see the Canyon and other great geographical wonders in that area of northern Arizona.

Since we have entered Texas and are making our way to the Southwest, we are experiencing beautiful new faces of the earth itself just as we have been discovering beautiful faces of the people we have met so far in the past six weeks of our journey. We are also looking forward to meeting some of the Native Americans who have been so welcoming to us in the past and have really understood the universal harmony that we try to share with everyone, regardless of race or beliefs.

We then headed to Hereford where we are staying for the night at the Best Western Red Carpet Inn thanks to the generosity and sense of community.

Waiting for the Train in the middle of nowere.

On our way there, we were hit by a very fast moving rainstorm. We luckily only experienced part of the storm as did our runners who were still on the road. But on the evening news we saw that this storm had high winds of almost hurricane proportions and it did some damage to the area south of Amarillo where we had just been hours before.

Our Harmony Pilgrims pause to pray for protection at the feet of La Virgen de Guadalupe.

We felt blessed to miss the brunt of it as we settled in for the night and reflected on all the wonderful experiences of yet another fine day on the road to harmony.
