USA 5 August: Egypt, NY to Manilius NY

Today I ran a few miles in sandals, we do this from time to time for a change from running shoes. Just before Camilus our team was greeted by a most enthusiastic group of children and their parents. They were all from the nearby hometown of Daulot – one of our Seattle Harmony Runners.

Soon they were sprinting on the sidewalk and running with the torch. They were even our new passengers in Greeny our support vehicle, taking rest and water. They seemed enchanted by this magical journey with the torch.

They were cheering and encouraging one another shouting, “Come on, you run one mile on the track in school!!”

After many had dropped out it was only Daulot’s sister who endured the 3 miles.

We finished our miles in Camilus where we met Daulot’s 95 year old father who carried the torch from his wheelchair proudly joined his 3 granddaughters Olivia, Caroley and Holly, plus their dog.

We finished our day with a big ice-cream for everyone which we devoured while resting on a nearby grassy meadow.

Today Sunabin, Jowan and I began a few miles west of Syracuse and headed east towards town and our meeting with the Mayor. We seemed to meet more people cheering us on in two miles than in the previous fifty.

We were met at City Hall by Syracuse Mayor Matthew J. Driscoll who very kindly welcomed us to the city and presented us with a beautiful proclamation designating August 5 as World Harmony Run Day.

Soon we were back on the road and finished the day in Manilius.
