Slovakia 8 October: Nitra - Bratislava
Cradled by gently sloping hills, a light breeze on our faces we are the spectators of flocks of birds rising and falling, of glittering trees, cornfields and dried sunflower fields in black ready to be harvested, and ploughed and sillowed fields with a pure fresh shimmer of up-turned earthy brown.
The surroundings are slightly reminiscent of those in Molodova, a fresh free feeling in the air. A lightness marks the day, for the light blue sky is lightly cloudy, the sun a great big dapple over it.
The buildings in the little villages also display light colours of blue, yellow, white and brown.
In Vel’ke Zaluzie and Survoce cheerful children joined us along the road. In Pata and Sered, too.
In these towns we also met the hearty mayors who treated us with plentiful refreshments.
In Trnava a football legend ran with us to meet the very kind mayor.
In Trnava and Bernolakovo we visited orphanages and ran with the kids.
In Senec the gracious mayor told us about his town’s history.
Bratislava, the capital, was overflowing with a pure freshness this evening as we ran into the final ceremony. A man who is the holder of many Guinness records ran with us the last 6k. Bratislava is a beautiful city with grand architecture. We were deeply honoured to have the first president of Slovakia grace the ceremony. He gave a beautiful, heartfelt speech.
We then presented all the countries through which the run has travelled or shall travel this year, dressed in sashes.
A famous actor also gave a great, sincere speech on the importance of such an action as the WHR.
The ceremony ended with a great performance by Japaka Orchestra.
