Russia 9 June: Kursk - Orel

We started in Kursk at 9:00 and ran towards Orel. We had a fine running weather: sun, but not too hot, some clouds and some side-wind – a perfect day to enjoy running in Russia. We ran along the main road, which is a wide enough for both cars and runners.

At the region border, a volleyball team from Trosna was eagerly waiting to run with us. The Trosna boys were in very good physical shape and ran with us until the next region border, or approximately 25 km. At the border to Kormski region we met another group of boys who joined us. We said goodbye and good luck to the Trosna boys and went on.

On the next region border the same thing happened again, and in this way we were accompanied by local runners during the whole day. This is always a very nice experience and gives us an extra supply of energy to cover the distance ahead.

The police is with us on the road all the time. They drove 15 – 20 m behind the group of runners and that gives a good feeling of security. The only thing they did not quite appreciate was when we were playing football next to the road, while waiting for a runner.

We arrived at Orel in time and were welcomed by local runners, TV and a wedding couple. Actually the wedding couple had a pick-nick nearby, but when they saw us they came and took a few pictures with us. We told them, that we are the World Harmony Run and wished them a lot of harmony in their matrimony.

Together with the local runners we ran the 6 km through the city and stopped in front of the monument of the legendary T 34 tank.

Some of the people who welcomed us knew us from previous years of the Run and it was nice to meet old friends. After a short ceremony and interviews with local TV stations we went to the hotel.

Hero of the day was Natalia from Ukraine: she ran 51 km and looked at 6 PM as fresh as at 9 AM. We have no idea how she does it.

Distance: 162
