Poland 23 July: Ostroleka - Czerwonka

This was a day everybody was eagerly looking forward to, as we were entering the region of the Masurian lakes, arguably Poland's most beautiful region. Especially in the summer, the countless lakes and untouched forests spread a unique atmosphere.

As we started in Ostroleka, the running club which welcomed us the night before was already waiting for us and accompanied us to the city hall. The deputy mayor received the torch and offered great refreshments.

Krutyn, our next meeting place, lies in the middle of the lake area and is a real holiday village. We visited a camp for handicapped children and spent a pleasant time there.

Next we reached Mikolajki. The kids from a holiday camp waited for us on the main road and brought us all the way to their place.

In Wegorzewo we visited another holiday camp. We improvised a meeting on the street and ran a couple of hundred metres.

In the middle of the forest we met a group of German bikers. A spontaneous presentation was arranged!

In Gizycko runners from Lithuania joined in; the mayor welcomed us and after an entertaining presentation by us with translation from Russian in Lithuanian, the mayor ran enthusiastically around the main square.

Lonely country roads...

The last meeting of the day was really special. After running for 50 kilometres through a most beautiful landscape, suddenly 50 kids stormed towards us. We had reached Czerwonka, where a presentation in another holiday camp was scheduled.

We met more kids and together we ran all the way to their camp. Passing various obstacles, like a herd of cows and others, we reached the forest and the World Harmony Run Song ended our busy day.
