Morocco 24 March: Marrakech - local event

Today is our last official day on the WHR in Morocco this year.

We started our day with visits to two high schools in Marrakech.

At the first school, we were surprised by the attendance of hundreds of students in the schoolyard. We tried to speak to them, but it was impossible without a microphone.

So we sang our harmony song and opted for smaller meetings, in the staff room and in one classroom.

It was a very nice experience for us to have the opportunity to speak with students here. Unfortunately we don't speak Arabic (although we know how to sing our harmony song in Arabic) and very few of us speak French. But even with this language difficulty we understand each other very well and you could feel the goodness of people's hearts here.

After some difficulties with the many small roads in Marrakech we finally found our way to the next place, but a city map would have been helpful!

The second school surprised us even more! Students and teachers gathered by a beautiful school garden, where together we planted several flowers in the shape of heart.

We were also glad of another chance for a discussion with students and passing the torch around.

We feel that sometimes Europe or America blames Muslims or Arabic people for creating problems, but that this is not right. We met here and in other countries so many nice people, who are working in many ways to help others and to spread goodness and harmony in the world. More visitors should come to these countries to meet their brothers and sisters from this part of the world, because we all truly are one big family.

In the afternoon we went to the old quarter of Marrakech.

It is an amazing labyrinth of small passages, full of tiny shops.

Small pathways are connected to bigger streets.

There are several squares with markets and one big main square, which is also the centre of the old part (medina).

Here you can find many people selling all kind of things like snake skins, spices, fruits and drugs, or trying to make some money with snakes or monkeys.

It it hard to describe the atmosphere here, so it is better to see it in photos or with your own eyes!

We even tried on some local clothes.

We came back to our accommodation after sunset, when the city walls were nicely lit.

We would like to thank here, all the people who helped us here in Morocco, and to say that we will be very happy if we have a chance to come back.
