Morocco 23 March: Taourirt - Mellila
Today we said good-bye to Morocco but not to Africa. By evening we would be in the Spanish Territory of Melilla on the coast of this great continent. But first we had to cover over 100km in desert.
This morning before leaving town we visited a small school where the children had been eagerly awaiting our arrival.
We are sure that the parents of these cute kids had spent hours preparing their traditional costumes.
The children had so much fun taking photos with us.
Speeches were read out in French and Arabic by three children. The team was very impressed by how confidently they spoke.
The children sang some wonderful song in perfect tune.
The team couldn't believe the kind gift that the officials from the Town presented to us. This piece of art depicts a scene from the local area.
Another hot day in the desert...
...and another tempting place to swim. But we had to keep on going.
Waiting for a runner in the middle of nowhere...
Our arrival in the last Moroccan town, Nador, was quiet .
We decided to stop at this wedding celebration to enjoy some traditional musical performances and pass around the torch
Crossing the border into Spain (but still on African continent!) went smoothly and we were grateful to meet 2 guys who were able to guide us to the Sports Stadium in Melilla where we were to stay.
This chance encounter lead us to meet the director of the Melilla Half Marathon. He kindly invited us to participate tomorrow.
