Morocco 26 May: Tangier - Larache

On Friday May 26 we took the ferry from Tarifa, Spain, to Tangier in Morocco. We did not know what to expect but the country gave us an amazingly uplifting experience. Waiting for us right at the port were the police escort, city authorities and national press agency. We were ushered to the sport stadium where the Moroccan children's national athletic championship was just taking place. The World Harmony Run was then officially started with the participation of the authorities of the city and the province of Tangier, the representative of the Ministry of Youth and Education and hundreds of school children.

Some of the best children athletes accompanied us for 10 km on the way from Tangier to Larache.

We ran along the coast of Atlantic Ocean, meeting many children along the route.

At one point we were seen by German journalists who were just passing by in a car. They immediately stopped and made an interview with us for their ARD 1 radio broadcasting which covers 21 African countries.

Another great team of athletes were waiting to join us 25 km before the city of Larache. Morocco is truly a country of runners. These athletes were all amazing and we were struggling to catch up with them. They were so enthusiastic that it was almost impossible to control their pace.

Finally, we arrived at Larache where the mayor of the city and a big crowd of people welcomed us under a thundering performance of traditional Moroccan music.

Afterwards, we were invited to a dinner attended by all the prominent people of the city including the mayor, the province authorities, the police department, the representatives of various political parties and the best athletes of the city.

We were simply speechless as we received so many gifts and such an excellent meal. We want to openly thank them for the wonderful time they gave us.
