Torch Relay for Harmony

The European part of the more than half year long international torch relay started from Lisbon on Wednesday , which has the aim to promote understanding and friendship among countries.
The World Harmony Run, which simultanously goes on on 5 continents, will pass through 45 countries in Europe. In our continent, where the organizers hope to have 250 thousand participants, the run will cover more than 24 thousand kilometers, and will have a finish in Budapest with a closing ceremony on 28. October.
Famous supporters
The world's largest run for international friendship is supported by Carl Lewis, 9-time Olympic Gold Medalist (US), Tegla Loroupe (Kenya), marathon world record-holder in 1999, and Tatyana Lebedeva (Russia), Long Jump Gold Medalist. The World Harmony Run's organizer is the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team, the largest ultra-distance running organization in the world, which sponsors more than 500 athletic events each year.
Everyone can participate
The runners visit schools, community groups, running clubs, and local and national government organizations. At these stops they talk about "life on the run", and share their enthusiasm for world harmony. The Run does not seek to raise money or promote any political cause but only to create good will among peoples and nations.
Everyone can participate in the World Harmony Run: athletes and non-athletes, young and old alike. You can carry the torch a few steps, or a few kilometers.
Hungarians will participate
The World Harmony Run has 5 Hungarian participants, who will represent our country running in different parts of Europe.
