Prince Edward Island
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island – Monday, June 13:
Principal Philip Connolly of Queen Charlotte Intermediate School warmly invited the team to come to his school.
The Grade 7’s filled the cafeteria on a rainy morning.
They passed the torch and asked some of these questions: “how long does the torch burn, have you ever dropped it, how far do we run and is world harmony just a dream?”.
On one of the display banners is a quote from the founder, Sri Chinmoy, world harmony is a dream whose time has come.
Michelle, one of the team members, responded that everything begins as a seed, we plant the seed in our heart, we water it with our hopes and dreams and it sprouts, first unseen and then manifests from inside us out into the world.
Thankyou for inviting us to our first school in the Atlantic.
Next stop in Charlottetown was the Sherwood Elementary School .
When Janice Miles, the music teacher, heard about the WHR and the song, she “ran” with it all the grades learned the song.
The students sat in a large circle in the beautifully decorated spring carnival gym.
Grade 1’s sang the song, and each grade joined in, one grade at a time finishing with the Grade 6’s and the entire school singing the song together with both music teachers, teachers and team singing their hearts out.
Wow, what a spirit!
Thankyou to Principal Marian Grant, Vice-Principal Denise Gaudet-McThail, Physed teacher, Anne Thomson, and the super enthusiastic music teachers Janice and Sheridyth.
Summerside, Prince Edward Island – Monday June 13
Now the weather was clearing everyone was happy to be outside at Parkside Elementary.
Mayor Basil Stewart opened the ceremony by receiving the torch from the team and welcoming the Harmony Run to Summerside.
The students formed a large circle in the playground and passed the torch.
Thanks to those who held the banner and flags. Principal Lorna Champion says the school will do a follow-up project making torches with “Harmony is…”.
The team ran to Elm Street Elementary sharing the torch on the way with passing townsfolk who held it and made their wish for harmony. Principal Jerry McAulay, teachers and students were all ready in a circle. They sang their school song for us in French and English, with its spirit of harmony. And very graciously, Principal McAulay sent us off with presents of 3 beautiful pens with their schools inscription and 3 very big chocolate bars. Thankyou.
