Australia 04 May: Newman Primary School

Another World Harmony Run event graced Australia this week in Newman.

Newman?

Go 1200 km north of Perth, then 450 km inland from Port Hedland and you will find yourself in a remote Western Australian mining town of 8,000 permanent residents and another 2,000 or so fly-in-fly-out visitors.

A trio of World Harmony runners, Prabuddha Nicol, Satyakarma Elliott, and Veeraja Uppal were in Newman for a week's work and decided to take the opportunity to visit one of the local primary schools (Newman PS) and offer the children and staff a chance to participate in the world's longest relay.

In anticipation of the event, the children did some research on the Run before the three Australian team members presented themselves.

Eighty or so children joined the runners in singing the Theme Song, which was taught to them 'on the spot'. During the presentation by the team runners the children were keen to ask many questions.

The children then lined the school grounds to carry the torch in a mini-relay run. Afterwards, teachers and students alike gathered on the lawn to pose for a group shot.
