Australia 30 May: Aireys Inlet – Lavers Hill

Team A

We began our morning where we had finished the night before, just 2 km from the pretty seaside town of Anglesea. From there we enjoyed a leisurely downhill run to the Anglesea riverbank where we were met by staff and students from Anglesea Primary School.

Some of the children had colourfully decorated a series of flags with messages of peace and world harmony, whilst others expressed their yearnings for a more harmonious world in prose.

We formed a 'wishing line' and passed the torch from hand to hand, heart to heart, from the very youngest to the eldest, after each child had made their own personal wish for harmony.

We departed along the bike path adjacent to the Great Ocean Road with an excited throng of the older children in tow.

From Anglesea our team then drove along the spectacular Great Ocean Road to Kennett River.

Just 5 km into our leg from Kennett River to Apollo Bay we passed by another friend enjoying nature’s beauty, albeit at a decidedly more relaxed pace.

As we neared Apollo Bay some of our team could not resist a run along the wide-open beach.

At Apollo Bay Neighbourhood House the Apollo Bay Community Choir treated us to an uplifting performance of three songs, the highlight being a most inspiring arrangement of the World-Harmony-Run Song. Such was their joy and enthusiasm, many of us could not help but sing along with them.

From Apollo Bay our team travelled onto Glenaire. En route we were fortunate to meet a number of inspired locals and were blessed with a most beautiful vista of the Southern Ocean, marking the close of another eventful day on our journey around a continent.

Team B

Runar, Sandro, Edi, Peter, Marichi, Standa.

Our first ceremony started at Aireys Inlet Primary School where we met all the kids and teachers. They had arranged a very nice welcome with beautiful artwork and some of the students recited some of their own sentiments on harmony and peace, full of heart. We could feel how all the teachers and students really knew the meaning of harmony and peace firsthand.

After all the children had held the torch, the teachers picked about 25 kids to run with us up to the Split Point Lighthouse where the famous TV-show 'Round the Twist' was set. Then we were invited to climb to the top of the lighthouse by Eco Logic.

Principal Peter Steven, teacher Suszie Reeves and student Jules Tekin.

After this amazing view we were invited to the Lighthouse Stable and Tearoom by Anglesea Baptist Church for skonses (ed. Icelandic for 'scones') and hot chocolate. Yummie!

Thank you all very much for your hospitality and harmony.

Icelandic wool socks!

And thanks to the Aberdeen Motor Inn, Geelong for your kind support.

Team C

Sushmitam, Uddyogini, Edi, Marichi, Dima

Today we visited the beautiful school of Lavers Hill College, where we met with students from grade 1 to grade 12, all of whom come from the surrounding area.

They were very eager and inspired to learn more about world harmony from our international team and they were overjoyed to be able to hold the torch and run a few laps of their football field.

We thank Lavers Hill College for their enthusiastic participation in the World Harmony Run and wish our new friends all the best in their harmonious endeavours.

– Marichi Clarke (Australia)

The Great Ocean Road...

Salil Wilson, the International Co-ordinator of the World Harmony Run, has spoken to me for years about the beauty of the Great Ocean Road. He shared stories and anecdotes of the spectacular views and sights along the route and today we finally arrived – so I wanted to make today's photography a tribute to his love for this spectacular coastal highway and his beloved Australia:
