Australia 3 May: Kempsey – Taree

After early morning running from Kempsey to Taree, all three teams gathered in Taree to be greeted by the Mayor Eddie Loftus, a keen sports lover himself was delighted to hold the Torch and make his wish for a better world. After so many years of devastating drought it was heartening to learn from Eddie that the greater Taree Shire had in the past two weeks been blessed with plenty of rain.

The Mayor also assisted the World Harmony Runners with the presentation of the Torch-Bearer Award to local resident Eric Trad. Eric and his family have made significant contributions to the local community in many ways including fundraising for local charities and also the generous gift to the Taree Shire of 25 acres of their land for a new sports arena. Eric and fiancé Glenda attended the ceremony with no idea Eric had been nominated for the award. Eric was completely surprised to learn he was about to become the third Australian to receive the Torch-Bearers Award and exclaimed, with tears in his eyes: "this is better than winning the lottery, this has lifted me to the top of the mountain!"

For all the generous commitments Eric has made during his life undoubtedly the most powerful offering has come from Eric just being himself.

Eric's genuine goodness, warmth, kindness, humility and joy touched the hearts of all our team members.

With just one ceremony today we ran our miles and had the rest of the day to enjoy the sunshine, some sightseeing and general relaxing.

playing frisbee on the beach,

on swings,

seeing interesting animals,

surfing (well not exactly),

smiling,

meditating...

So many people make it possible for us to make it day to day on this incredible journey, in Kempsey one wonderful couple – Graham and Barbara Erskine, owners of the Skyline Motel – were such spectacular hosts and friends we owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to them, thanks!

Three very generous friends have helped us out over the last two days to keep us energised and running happily...

Domino's manager Tim and two of his employees Lewtwaite and Jacie in Kempsey.

Lobby's Seafood restaurant in Taree – Sue, Emily, Oym and Mitch,

and Bella Bellissimo and special thanks to Francesco Nardi, thanks, thanks, thanks!
